Biography and
Artist Statement 2008-2009
I grew up in the small Idaho town of Sandpoint. My loving and always-supportive parents raised my siblings and me on a perfect balance of white winter snow, blue summer skies, sprawling green woods, and, always my favorite, "The River."
In high school, under the tutelage of my great friend Dan Shook, I was seduced by oils and decided I wanted to pursue art as my career. At university, I studied Anthropology, Art History, Mythology, Historical Costume, Dress and Culture, and Women’s History. When it came time for my thesis body of work, these interests collided, merged and melded in my studio into five studies in oil of women in history who became my role models and heroines. These included (Cleopatra VII, Morgan le Fay, Mary Queen of Scots, Elizabeth I, and Caterina Sforza) Since returning to Sandpoint in 2000, I continue to develop conceptual works rooted in feminine strength in hopes of providing other women and girls with tenacious, intelligent, and confident role models of there own.
My artistic arsenal has expanded considerably since I chose to walk the path of a painter. My repertoire encompasses pencils, oil (my "forever love"), watercolor, oil painting restoration, and teaching. My favorite subjects range from introspective self-portraiture through mythology, mermaids, animal portraiture, flora, sailing scenes, and still lifes reflecting my love of fabric and design. I participate as often as possible in Art Walks, educational outreach programs, and auctions presented by local business and organizations for local causes.
When I am not at the easel or working full time as an Administrative Assistant for the City of Sandpoint Parks and Recreation Department, I am most often with my husband or joyfully tending my garden.
Sincerely,
Kami Blood, December, 2008
Artist’s Statement
Being an artist allows me to be many things. By consistently broadening my interests, Art pulls ever more into the cacophony of my imagination and creativity. Art by its very nature inspires me to BECOME as much as any piece BECOMES under my ministrations. Such a symbiotic relationship between the art and the artist is what I most cherish.
I hope you will enjoy the results. |
